报告题目:Evolution of High-Speed Signal Processing in Optical Communications--Recent Research Activities at USC

报告简介:Today’s networks are growing at incredible rates, driven by both the increasing in the number of connections as well as the demand for high bandwidth applications, mainly video content. Therefore, we can expect that next-generation core optical networks will require significant improvements in capacity and reconfigurability. The role of high-speed signal processing, both electronic and optical, will then become more critical. Recently, optical orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) has drawn considerable attention, in which electronic signal processing is an essential part. On the other hand, all-optical techniques overcome the bandwidth limitation of electronics and are preferred for handling high-bit-rate exceeding hundreds of gigabit per second.
In this talk, a brief review of the evolution of electrical and optical signal processing techniques will be given, along with a brief introduction of a few major research programs in the United States. Then, the talk will be mainly focused on the recent research activities on high-speed electrical and optical signal processing, with the emphasis on the work done at University of Southern California (USC).
