It emphasize the importance of IP telephony. The merging of the classic telephone and new IP telephone is clearly observed as NGN (Next Generation Network) which is a hot topic at ITU-T. The exiting Internet is mainly based on TCP. It is time for us to pay attention to UDP which carries voice and video in real time. There is an interesting protocol, ENUM, defined in RFC 3761. ENUM is based on DNS technology in the Internet, while the number is allocated in the same manner as for an old telephone set. DNS is a key technology in the Internet. DNS is usually based on UDP. 题目二：Social impact of the Internet（互联网对社会发展的影响）主讲人：Shigeki Goto博士时间: 2006年11月3日（星期五）下午3：00 地点：教三楼437 内容：Many people understand that the Internet may overcome the difficulty caused by long distance. At the same time, the Internet can send the information along the time axis. We should learn the lesson from a French philosopher, Pascal, who advocates that education is an essential activity to maintain the human society. Education is a kind of communications between two or more generations. It is natural to use the Internet for educational purposes because it is a superior method for communications. A Canadian professor, Prof Rickard Lipsey, told that the Internet is a transformative general purpose technology. He listed 24 general purpose technology in several thousand years of human history. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Mathematics from the University of Tokyo. Prior to becoming a professor at Waseda University, he has worked for NTT for many years. He also earned a Ph.D in Information Engineering from the University of Tokyo. He is a computer scientist and an editor of "New Generation Computing" (Ohm-sha and Springer-Verlag). He is a member of ACM and IEEE, and a trustee of Internet Society from 1994 to 1997. In addition to authoring several textbooks on LISP and PROLOG, Dr. Goto has also translated several books including "An Introduction to TCP/IP" (by John M. Davidson) and "STACKS" (by Carl Malamud). The latter translation work is reported in "Exploring the Internet -- A Technical Travelogue (by Carl Malamud). He is currently the chairman of APAN as well as APAN-JP. He is also the president of JPNIC. He is a member of the Telecommunications Council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC).
