It helps to tackle with “everywhere networks” such as the Internet, economic and text-representational networks, as well as food webs and molecular-level biological networks. Network analysis, grounded in systematic empirical data, is the root of Network Science. Contributions made by scientists have greatly expanded this discipline over the past 15 years. Mathematical and/or computational models effectively address the problem of multivariate and complex network analysis. Recent years have seen the great value of new statistical models, like the p* models, as making possible an effective and informed move from local, micro to overall, macro network modeling. This talk gives an overview of the field, with particular attention paid to new statistical research. 报告人简介： Stanley Wasserman is the Rudy Professor of Statistics, Psychology, and Sociology in Indiana University Bloomington. Professor Wasserman is best known for his work on Statistics, Psychological and Brain Sciences, Sociology, Cognitive Science. He has published widely in these fields, and has been elected to a variety of leadership positions in the Classification Society of North America and the American Statistical Association. He is a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, and an honorary fellow of the American Statistical Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has been an Associate Editor of a variety of statistics and methodological journals, as well as the Book Review Editor of Chance. His research has been supported over the years by NSF, ONR, ARO, ARL, and NIMH. He held faculty positions at Carnegie-Mellon University, University of Minnesota, and University of Illinois, in the disciplines of Statistics, Psychology, and Sociology; in addition, at Illinois, he was a part-time faculty member in the Beckman Institute of Advanced Science and Technology, and has had visiting appointments at Columbia University and the University of Melbourne.
