Review of My English Study

It is a very long time that I have not summarized something. So at this time, I would like to take the opportunity to share my experience on English study. First of all, I want to stress everyone has his own way of studying, then my way is probably not the best way for you to learn English. The reason why I am writing this post is for your reference and for my own summarization. Anyway, I would be feel happy if it indeed helps. During my English study, first thing above all I think is confidence. Of course, methodolgy is also important. But here, I would say confidence is the most important, like groundwork to a house, while I would like to describe the methodolgy as fuel to fire. In the past and most recently, I often talked to myself "English is quite simple" during my study of languages. In another word, I would never say "I have a poor English/Japanese" or something like that. Language is just a tool, you never have an exact definition of how poor is poor. Instead, I prefer to say "Today I have made a progress/improvement on my English". Many people think English is difficult to learn. Before presenting my comments, I want to talk about an example of myself. I have known the magic cube from my childhood. Unfortunately, I used to not like to play it. Why? because it took me a whole day to just make two sides of 6 sides at most. So I removed it from my toy list. Until now, I accidentially acquired a new one, and after a careful study, I managed to make it. The reason I think is quite simple: I dont fear it and take some efforts on it. Therefore, the conclusion is if you fear it you have already lost from the very beginning. English is indeed not as difficult as you think. I think most of you should have a better English than I was in the university. At the time of graduation, I did not prepare GRE, TOFEL etc. So I had a very finite vocabulary and extermely bad oral without necessarily mentioning the write. I still remembered the moment of oral test, in response to teacher's questions, 50% of which I could not catch, I hardly formed a simple response in a minute, and even for the pronounication of "brand", I repeated for several time. Well, where is your confidence? After obtaining confidence, two more elements are indispensible, i.e. methodology and diligence. My methodology is reading at least 4 English articles each inclduing more than 300 words every day and making notes about unfamiliar words and its synonymy because I think vocabulary accumulation is at the top of the importance. I had kept on for 3 months. And then I found forming a english sentence became easy. Meanwhile, the English movies without subtitles, audios were used to reenforce listening. Till now, I still keep the habit of listening tonews updates broadcasted in the first 5 mins of every hour at CRI (but I remains unsensitive to digits and news about stock market). Thus, if you want to make some improvement, I think massive reading and vocabulary accumulation should be the first step you are supposed to concentrate your attentions on. The write and oral will be unconciously and gradullay improved along with the reading.
