字典解释的很清楚，帮楼主贴出来了：Besides something or beside something means in addition to it. 也就是besides = in addition to了。 个人理解，besides前后的事物具有相同的属性，最后的结果是besides前面的事物“加上”后面的事物同时成立。I don't want to tell anybody besides you ，anybody和you具有相同的属性，即都没被tell，最后的结果是anybody+you都没有被tell。这种相加性跟besides = in addition to有关。除此以外，besides还有种说法是强调唯一性，例如，He was the only person besides Gertrude who talked to Guy，he和Gertrude具有相同的属性，都与guy进行talk，即最后结果是he+Gertrude与guy进行talk。可见，besides无论用在什么场合，都满足具有“相加性”，前后事物属性相同的特点。 而except正好相反，except前后的事物具有相反属性，最后结果是前面的“减去”后面的。All of his body relaxed except his right hand。body与right hand有不同属性，body放松了，而right hand不，最后结果是body - right hand剩下的部分放松了。即，except满足“相减性”和前后事物属性相反的特点。 except for 与except有点类似，满足前后事物属性不同，但不满足“相减性”。因为，except for前后的事物不属于同一个“域”。用数学的语言说，就是except for前后的事物不属于同一个“线性空间”，不能直接做减法，所以except for主要是利用前后事物的属性不同，来加强前后事物的鲜明对比。The composition is pretty good except for some grammatical mistakes.这里composition和mistake不属于同一个空间，不做减法，只利用二者属性的不同（composition是good，mistake是bad）做鲜明对比。如果想利用“相减性”，就得说The composition is pretty good except section B. 以上是个人理解，仅供参考。下面是字典给的辨析 Do not confuse besides, except, except for, and unless.
