学术讲座通知讲座题目:Multi-Scale Wireless Communications: a New Frontier 主讲人:Weisi Guo (University of Warwick, UK), Siyi Wang (Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University)主持人:李斌时 间:2014年11月28日 (周五)下午14:00地 点:教三3-134教室Abstract: Humanity has been reliant on wave-based wireless communications for several centuries. It has mainly severed us well in above the ground, open space, and relatively large-scale unbounded environments. However, our confidence in wave-based information transfer breaks down as we approach the micro-scale or smaller dimensions. As we move to the future, much of what we want to observe, to understand, and to act on is in the micro- and nano-scale. Examples include health monitoring in micro-cavities in complex machinery, and nano-robots performing targeted drug delivery. In order to realize the dream of wireless communications at this scale, alternative information carriers need to be found. Nature rarely uses low frequency electromagnetic waves to communicate, both at the microscopic and at the macroscopic level. One wonders why. This talk examines the propagation advantages of molecular based information carriers and examines some of the early advances made in molecular communications by myself and others. In this talk, we address some fundamental questions: what is the capacity of a random walk channel, how can we equalize a diffusion channel, how do we encode messages onto chemical molecules, and how do we build a molecular communication test-bed? This work has been extensively covered by the Economist, the Wall Street Journal, Wired, IET, and has received funding from the Royal Society. The project has been selected as one of 7 finalists in the Bell Labs Prize 2014. We welcome undergraduate, postgraduate, and faculty members with a general interest in science and engineering to attend. 主讲人介绍:Dr. Weisi Guo’s Bio: Dr. Weisi Guo graduated from the University of Cambridge with MEng, MA, and PhD (2011) degrees. He is currently an assistant professor at the University of Warwick (UK) and the School of Engineering’s Smart City research coordinator. He has won IEEE best paper awards and published over 50 IEEE papers in the past few years in the area of 4G cellular networks, nano-communications, and mobile sensing. Weisi currently leads a team of 1 research fellow and 5 PhD students. As well as having worked in industry for 2 years, he has also served on the committee of flagship IEEE conferences, he is currently a guest editor for 2 IEEE journal special issues, and is an editor for a new IEEE transactions in 2015. The University of Warwick is consistently ranked top 10 in the UK, and was ranked 3rd worldwide in the under-50 years category, and is currently ranked 61st in global rankings (QS 2014). Weisi is part of a team that was recently awarded £4 million to operate a smart city research centre, and we are currently building smart city campuses in both Birmingham and London, as well as connecting to partner smart city centres in New York and Mumbai. Dr. Siyi Wang Bio: Dr. Siyi Wang received his B.Eng. in Communications Engineering and B.A. in English Language and Literature from Shanghai University (China) in 2006. He graduated from the University of Leeds (UK) with M.Sc(Eng) in Wireless Communications in 2007 and he obtained his Ph.D in the same area from the University of Sheffield (UK) in 2013. He was a research member of the project “Core 5 Green Radio” funded by Virtual Centre of Excellence (VCE) and UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), and focused on the project of stochastic geometry modeling of heterogeneous networks and system-layer and energy performance of Wi-Fi and 4G LTE cellular networks. He is currently a lecturer at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) and a research fellow at Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIBET, CAS). He has led a team and won the second prize of the IEEE Communications Society Student Competition “Communications Technology Changing the World”. He has published over 25 IEEE papers in the past 3 years in the area of 4G cellular networks, molecular communications, and mobile sensing and won an IEEE best conference paper award. His research interests include: molecular communications, indoor-outdoor network interaction, small cell deployment, device-to-device (D2D) communications, machine learning, stochastic geometry, theoretical frameworks for complex networks and urban informatics. Xi’an Jiaotong – Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a new international university jointly founded by Xi’an Jiaotong University China and the University of Liverpool (UoL) UK as a joint venture. It currently has 500 academic staff, 80% of them holding foreign nationality and all subject staff has to hold a Doctorate degree from a well-known university in the world. XJTLU offers research and taught Masters programmer across all academic departments and centers, leading to a Masters degree awarded by University of Liverpool. The XJTLU Doctoral Program is a strategic research collaboration between XJTLU and the UoL, and is based at XJTLU.
