The prairie rattlesnake's habitat ranges over much of the Great Plains and elsewhere梚ncluding parts of Canada and northern Mexico. The snake, the largest of the subspecies Crotalus virdis, has been recorded at a maximum of 57 inches (45 centimeters) long.
