As to ENGLISH STUDY

English skills are usually meansured in terms of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing (LSRW). I do well believe that most English learners have pains in improving any of LSRW. So do I! The origin of pains, I think, comes from the establishment of an unreasonable objective. I find I was obssessed with many unreasonable objectives I set to myself in the past. "Roma is not bulit in one day". The same principle can also be applied to English study. For example, if you are not a broadcaster or a host of a show, you do not necessarily need to master standard pronunication. Of course, you can set your goal as possession of a fluent and elegant spoken English. But it shall be after you master LSRW to a certain degree. Vocabulary has a very close link to LSRW. But it does not mean the more the better because indescriminate memorization of words and phrases is significantly time consuming. We need to consider the input and output efficiency. I think the vocabulary can be classified into two categories, daily vocabulary and professional vocabulary. Be remember that you don't need to compel yourself to memorize all words, becase on one hand there are too many, one the other hand you will forget many of them if you seldom use them. Not to be stricted with yourself on grammar in spoken English. Speaking is quite different from writting. It requires your quick mind to comprehend what has been heard and constuct sentences to express. Compared to grammar in spoken English, correct communication of your opinions is much more important. In addition, you shall not mind your accent/dialect unless it affects the correct conveyance of your opinions. Listening is quite a headache. Several factors matters, including speaker's accent, content of speaking, degree of your familarity with the content, your vacabulary etc. I am absolutely sure that you have experience that listening skill becomes worse or better when listening to different listening materal.

Not quite sure. Any difference between "you are not necessary to do that" and "you are not necessarily to do that"?? The "be to do" can also mean future tense. 【 在 Canda 的大作中提到: 】 : U mean not necessary to do that

I think Canda means a adj. is needed in "be not ___ to do that ", not a adv.
