应校学术委员会和信息光子学与光通信研究院张晓光教授邀请，阿尔卡特-贝尔实验室研究员、北京邮电大学客座教授刘翔博士将来我校做学术报告：“相干光通信进展”与“成为有影响研究人员的必备素质”。刘翔教授是国际光通信界的名人。去年刘翔教授来北邮访问，曾经做过题为“现代与下一代光纤传输系统各种支撑技术”的学术报告，收到大家好评。
报告人：刘翔 博士（阿尔卡特-贝尔实验室）
报告题目：
1、Recent advances in coherent optical communications
（相干光通信进展：总结了进来相干光通信各方面的科研进展，以及目前该领域存在的挑战问题。）
2、Characters needed for becoming an influential researcher
（成为有影响研究人员的必备素质：结合刘翔教授本人成长经历，为青年学者、在校学生讲述为成长为一个合格的科研人员，如何培养个人素质、积累经验、努力方向等大家关心的问题。）

刘翔博士简历：
Xiang Liu (刘 翔) received his M.S. degree in Physics from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1994, and his Ph.D. degree in applied physics from Cornell University in 2000.
Since joining Bell Labs as a Member of Technical Staff in 2000, Xiang has been primarily working on high-speed optical communication technologies. He has authored/co-authored over 180 journal and conference papers, and holds 31 US patents. His publications have been cited more than 1,200 times (based on SCI).
Xiang is a senior member of the IEEE, a committee member of Optical Fiber Communications Conference (OFC), and was the Vice-Chair of the Optical Communications Technical Group of the Optical Society of America (OSA) (2007-2008)
He is also a guest Professor of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and Shanghai Jiaotong University.
