Successful candidate will be part of an active research team led by PI/Co-PI in SMU, targeting to publish high-quality papers at top-tier venues. Candidate's core responsibilities include: - Conduct routine research and development for the project under the supervision of PI/Co-PI. - Implement data gathering methods, collect research data, data preprocessing, annotate data examples (when needed). - Implement core machine learning/NLP methods/approaches and baselines. - Conduct experimental evaluation of the designed methods and algorithms. - Participate in drafting technical reports and research papers. - Attend regular grouping meeting and discussions. - Help administrate and maintain the hardware/software environments such as development platforms, software packages and toolkits. Requirements: - Ongoing PhD student/candidate in Computer Science or a related discipline - Minimum 1-year relevant research experience in one or more of the following areas: natural language processing, social network mining, information retrieval - Excellent skills in programming - Experience with machine learning methods and toolkits (deep learning experience is a plus) - Experience with programming in Python, Java, or C/C++ - Good analytical, technical and problem-solving skills - Self-motivated individual who can work independently and collaboratively with team members Successful candidate will be provided with a monthly stipend that can cover daily expenses of meal, accommodation and local transport. The contract for this VRS position will be set as 8 months initially and can be extended for another 4-6 months based upon mutual agreement. SMU will assist in obtaining a TEP visa for the candidate entering Singapore. The candidate needs to 1) get a support letter stating student status at their university; 2) hold a valid passport.
