Adobe Set For Busy Month Matthew Kirdahy, 10.20.06, 6:00 PM ET Adobe Systems didn’t start the year so hot. But it’s how you finish the race that counts, right? Since reporting its promising third-quarter earnings in September, in the wake of a disappointing second quarter, the company has been going full steam into its next big product launch, the latest installment of the ubiquitous Acrobat software. The professional version is expected to cost $159, while the standard version will go for $299. Registered users of earlier versions can upgrade for $99. In addition, Adobe (nasdaq: ADBE - news - people ) has made two key acquisitions that will ultimately enrich the way it provides software for personal and professional use. On Thursday, the software company announced the acquisition of Serious Magic, maker of video software and communications tools. Financial details weren’t disclosed. “The huge momentum behind Flash Video, which is powering everything from online TV shows to YouTube and MySpace, is turbo-charging Adobe’s video business,” said John Loiacono, senior vice president of creative solutions business unit. In a news release, Adobe said the acquisition would not have a “material financial impact” on the company. On Oct. 11, Adobe said it acquired Actimagine, a company that develops, patents and licenses software solutions. The deal will help Adobe expand in the mobile market with the its popular Flash product. In June, Adobe reported droopy second-quarter results, as revenue of $645 million fell on the short end of the company’s guidance range. The reason: sluggish sales of its creative products, like the InDesign publication software and the Photoshop digital imaging program. Consumers were waiting for Adobe to put out software compatible with Apple (nasdaq: AAPL - news - people )'s new Macintosh computers, which use processors made by Intel (nasdaq: INTC - news - people ), rather than its earlier chips designed by Motorola (nyse: MOT - news - people ) and IBM (nyse: IBM - news - people ).
