It's definitely sure that most of our Chinese people suffer from speaking in networking event and public speaking. Believe me, it makes me suffered too. And I'm recently trying to figure out what causes this unpleasant results and what we can do to improve it. Even though I'm still not successful in solving this headache problem, what I am doing now is trying to throw out what I have found and achieved so as to probably get more useful feedbacks and inputs from you. As to barriers preventing us from freely speaking, the 1st one is you are afraid of making mistakes, or let's say in other words, you want to make things perfect and intact. This is especially true under situation that you intend to speak to some one in a language other than native language. You shall know everything kicks off with a hard beginning, and you can learn more from things you made wrong. So you shall give yourself some courage and confidence to speak without considering too much on if mistakes will be made. Let's emphasize it again: mistakes make you grow faster. Secondly, you shall free you mind. Don't put too many limitations or restrictions on your thought about topic for talk. The topic can be everything, but you need keep in mind that when topic comes to religion, politics etc, you shall be careful. The reason is that the topics of these topic can easily diminish the rapport, make things even worse. The educations we used to have taught us to stick closely to the topic, and no show-off. But this stereotype presentation or talk won't attract any one definitely. It may be a good idea to add some relevant jokes before the presentation/ talk. To dig deep into the reasons stopping us from freely talk, I find several factors as shown below: 1. Lack of experience in life, for instance, if you are familiar with subway system in one or more countries, you can ask what that is like in his country and make some comparison. Another example, if you know cars, economies or the events happening around the world, you can talk them freely and ask for their comments on this. Nowadays, more Chinese want to find a foreign partner to polish their English. Believe me, if you dont have knowledge about life, you will suffer. 2. Lack of courage. I don't want to talk too much on this point. But it does not mean this is not important. Conversely, it's the most important thing. If you don't step forward sometimes, you will gain nothing. 3. Vocabulary is insufficient. It's indeed a problem. It will exponentially affect your expression and undermine your confidence. So getting yourself more time on learning new words is not a bad idea. 4. Last but not least, you shall learn some etiquette about social activities. For example, how to respond, where to see and what gesture shall not be made while talking, how to become more active than passive etc.
