HTC Internship Recruitment 2013 - 2014
The HTC Beijing Research Center will seek to accelerate the pace of scientific research and development in innovating new computing systems and algorithms for creating new data-intensive end-user experiences. The center reports directly to Professor Edward Chang, Head of HTC Research. Professor Chang was the Director of Google Research at China from 2006 to 2012. Before that, he was a full professor at University of California, Santa Barbara. Besides his position at HTC, he is also appointed as an adjunct professor at HKUST, Hong Kong.
Research Areas:
1. Big Data Machine learning
o Classification: large-scale classifiers, feature extraction, and feature selection.
o Clustering: large-scale data clustering.
o Probability: probabilistic models and stochastic processes.
2. Natural language processing
o Harvesting rich knowledge (e.g., semantic relations) from Web pages.
o Enrich texts (e.g., news and articles) and social networks (e.g., users and their relations).
3. Computer vision
o Large-scale image classification, natural scene understanding, and image editing.
4. Social networks
o Explore the key principles of social networks.
5. Mobile Internet Killer Applications.
Internship Goals:
1. Train interns to be competitive researchers.
2. Publish actively on top conferences and journals.
3. Contribute to open source for big data processing.
Requirements:
- Passion for research and innovation
- Solid C/C++/Java programming
- Good reading and writing skills in English
- B.S./M.S./Ph.D. candidates in computer science, math, statistics, or related disciplines
- Strong applied math backgrounds preferred
- Strong machine learning and pattern recognition backgrounds preferred
- Can commit to work at least 20 hours per week
