best actress in leading role of the 81th Oscar Academy. Two plots in the movie
impressed me most and made me think further.
Hanna, the role cast by Kate, was a gaoler of a Nazi camp in the World War Two.When the camp caught fire, she would rather keep the camp door locked, which claimed the deaths of many prisoners,than open the door to let them out. She never doubt the rationality of her duty, or the guilt she made. In Hanna's point of view, what she did is the job requirement, that is: Though the deaths of prisoners is not agreeable, it is far better than letting them out. What made her behave so ruthlessly? Apparently it is the instillation of Nazi thinking.
Hanna, a downright illiterate, was always in an attempt to cover up the fact that she can not read. What on earth made her do this constantly? Self-esteem or
the sense of shame? Self-esteem and the sense of shame, I believe, is just one
step away. Anyone who bear the sense of shame in his innermost heart would
particularly display confidence and esteem outwardly. People of this kind, trying to maintain their lofty image, will cover up their inner shame at all costs. "The Reader",in fact,is questioning us whether we have enough courage to face up to the reality, no matter how painful and unacceptable at that moment, whether we can face up to our shame, no matter how others regard us after we tell the truth.
