The Rennes facilities of IMT-A are located within the campus of the University of Rennes 1, and near the main innovation centers and research labs of many industrial partners in the area of information technology (http://www.imt-atlantique.fr/lecole/campus/campus-de-rennes/). The Department Network, Security, Multimedia in the Rennes campus gathers around 20 (associate-)professors and research staff, plus more than 30 PhD students. ADOPNET (http://www-adopnet.irisa.fr/) research team contributes to the specification of architectures, protocols, control mechanisms, and monitoring mechanisms for the next generation networks. Our goal is to build networks that are flexible, adaptive, energy-efficient, secure, and able to deliver content on a large scale to various types of terminals. The Postdoctoral Research Associate is expected to pursue research towards various aspects related to cellular systems. A particular focus will be put on LTE mobile relays. The objective is to optimize user data transmission and mobility protocols in the context of mobile relays and to develop a test-bed with 4G mobile relays to measure the performance of the proposed protocols. . By working on the datasets collected by the two teams within their respective projects (HostView and Acqua), and confronting the results on these datasets to each other, the PostDoc is supposed to provide answers to these questions: (a) Given a set of QoE/QoS metrics, which subsets exhibits an optimal predictive capacity (i.e., they are conditionally independent of all other metrics not belonging to this set?). We are particularly interested in several such sets that contain different metrics eventually coming with a different cost in obtaining them. (b) What local causal relationships exist between QoE and multiple QoS metrics? What are the major confounding factors involved? How domain knowledge of individual metrics (reported in the literature) are contrasted with probabilistic causal relationships inferred from the data? (c) How causal relationships can be used both for diagnosis (knowing the effect to infer the cause) and prediction (knowing the cause to predict the effect especially when transiting from high to low level QoE? Once the above analytical framework is stabilized, the plan is to move to a second phase where we take a look big data issues such as volume, variety and velocity of metrics.
