KATHLEEN教授在西北大学教科技论文写作课，这个暑假来到北大做论文写作相关的研究，她想跟中国的理工科研究生交流一下这方面的心得体会等，（是一对一的交流，不是一对多的报告） Kathleen说她还可以帮同学修改打算投的英文论文稿件。最好有写过论文经验的同学来和她交流，硕士，博士，博士后或教授都可以。有意向的工科同学，看看下面的告示。 Kathleen is a researcher and writing teacher from Northwestern University (in Evanston, Illinois--USA) and she is interested in learning how science and engineering graduate students in China study and practice writing so as to become proficient in writing for professional journals in their fields. Her goal is to learn from students at all levels of graduate study what students regard as the most difficult challenges in learning this skill, what learning strategies were most helpful for them, and how writing instructors might best help students seeking to master these skills. She is simply to gather student advice and insights in order to develop innovative and more effective teaching strategies and materials to assist students seeking to master these very important skills. Students are invited to discuss any topics that they believe to be relevant. Kathleen is very interested in hearing your original ideas about what is most helpful to you in learning this very important skill. She would also be very interested in hearing your suggestions for people like her who teach writing. How can teachers like her best help you? The following questions are just a guide. You can talk any topics you want to talk and Kathleen is very interested in hearing your original ideas. 1--What is your name? 2--What is your field of study? At what year are you in your graduate study? What degree will you receive? 3--What are the most important Chinese language and English language professional journals in your field? 4--At what stage or year in your education did you begin to practice writing for scientific publications? Did you take a course to learn this skill? If so, what was that course? Please describe what you studied in the course. 5--Did you learn how to write for professional journals through other methods (for example, through instruction by someone in your research group)? Please describe how that was done. 6--Did you use any special textbooks (in Chinese or English) to help you in master this skill? If so, please list their names. 7--How did you begin to practice this skill? For example, some students begin by writing summaries of published articles, others by writing literature reviews, and so forth. Are you required to write literature reviews as part of your training for your field? 8--How do you identify the most important articles for your field of study and your specific research? For example, your professor may give you a list to study, or you may search a database of scientific articles, and so forth. What databases do you use--if any--to find important articles in your field? 9--What things about writing for English-language professional journals do you find most difficult? If another student were to ask you for advice on how to learn to write for professional journals, what would you recommend? 10--How do you think writing teachers and writers of textbooks can best help students who are learning this skill?
