These roles focus on general-purpose trustworthiness assurance (e.g., testing, analysis, verification) theory, methodology, and techniques, as well as domain-specific adaptation to various areas, including Machine Learning Systems, Large Language Models, Cyber-physical Systems, Autonomous Vehicles, Robotics, AIoT, HCI, Blockchain and Defi. These positions are made possible through joint research collaborations and funding from M Lab at The University of Tokyo, Japan, and the University of Alberta, Canada. We highly welcome applicants with industrial working (especially R&D) experience or those who strongly desire to learn and contribute to industrial technology transfer. Upon joining, researchers will have the freedom to collaborate and the opportunity to visit labs on both sides as well as our partner institutes frequently. M Lab, The University of Tokyo, Japan M Lab, University of Alberta, Canada & Amii AI Institute Canada --- Tentative Research Projects We have several exciting research topics on but not limited to: - Model-based analysis of AI systems, with special focus on Large Language Models (LLMs) and other foundational models. - Trustworthiness of AI system engineering and cyber-physical systems, e.g., testing and analysis of autonomous vehicles (Real car with license available, ready to run immediately), robotics, power and energy systems, etc. - Domain-specific adaptation of AI-enabled Systems across domains, e.g., Computer Vision, Speech Recognition, and Large Language Models, Reinforcement Learning and its application in Industrial Video Games - HCI for AI system engineering - Trustworthy and Explainable AI (XAI) and its application in human brains, medical science - Traditional Software Modeling, Testing, Analysis, and Verification, empowered by AI - Blockchain, Smart Contract and DeFi, with and for AI Successful candidates will work at the University of Alberta and Alberta Machine Intelligent Institute (Amii) Canada, one of the three biggest national AI centers in Canada. Alternatively, candidates can choose to work and visit the M Lab at The University of Tokyo, Japan. Both locations are well equipped with powerful resources such as 40+ GPU servers, smart glasses, robotic arms, drones, autonomous cars, etc. The position involves conducting basic research, developing tools, working as part of a large research team with 30+ members from diverse backgrounds, traveling, giving presentations, and the exciting opportunity to collaborate with top-tier Software systems and AI companies globally.
