内容摘要: PDM (Polarizaton-Division-Multiplexing) and coherent detection are
enabling technologies for 40-Gbps and beyond. Unlike in a single polarizati
on direct detection system, polarization management is essential in a system
incorporating PDM and coherence detection. We review different approaches a
nd compare their pros and cons in terms of unit cost, development cost, perf
ormances, and implementation feasibility.
