自 梁伟浩,SG,AIMUN2008的问候 发件人:bailly qi <qite.mun@gmail.com> 查看添加 拒收 时 间:2007年12月26日(星期三) 晚上08:08 大 小:13K Dear Head Delegates/Faculty Advisors: As chairperson of the organizing committee for AIMUN 2008, it is my great pleasure and honour to welcome each and every one of you into the AIMUN family. It is my greatest wish to see every single delegate who has chosen to participate in our conference enjoys a world-class activity that would also be one of his or her most enjoyable experiences. It has been an amazing time for the secretariat so far, communicating and liaising with so many excellent schools all across the world. We have worked tirelessly for 9 months since April, all with aim of providing an unforgettable and memorable MUN conference. What has been especially fruitful for us is the fact that AIMUN began with very humble origins, starting as an intra-collegiate event involving less than 100 students. When we refurbished the event and kicked off the inaugural international conference this year, we were warmly encouraged by the enthusiasm and support of 47 schools across 12 nations that made AIMUN 2007 an important milestone in our development. For AIMUN 2008, I am glad to announce that it has achieved new heights in terms of participation. More than 400 students from 80 schools in 20 countries would be participating in the event, with the number of foreign schools increasing sharply from 12 in AIMUN 2007 to 35 next year. More importantly, we are seeing a sharp rise in delegate diversity, with schools from almost all regions of the world present. Top colleges from Korea, Netherlands, Russia, Azerbaijan, Singapore, Philippines, Egypt and Turkey would be joining us for the first time, greatly increasing the global dimensions of AIMUN. On the academic aspect, the secretariat has also made much effort in providing a highly stimulating and challenging environment. We have revamped our rules of procedure to ensure greater adherence to actual UN proceedings, and have instituted additional clauses in regional committees such as ASEAN to reflect the true nature of their decision-making process. In accordance to the conference theme "A Co-operative Asia, A Harmonious World", committees and topics are carefully selected to enhance relevance to current affairs. In fact, we have increased the number of committees from 9 to 11, and expanded the number of special committees to 5, all in line with our aim of increasing delegate engagement through greater focus on smaller and highly interactive committees. Furthermore, we have invited distinguished professors from Peking University who are leading experts in their field to provide academic support on all our topics and grace each committee as the guest speaker. Our Directors would also be providing greater assistance through the existing online discussion forum and the intra-committee mailing group that would be initiated by mid-January. A training DVD for local schools with relatively lesser MUN experience has also been produced and distributed. Apart from academia, AIMUN 2008 would also be a fun-filled experience, providing a plethora of opportunities for delegates to interact at the personal level, building up valuable networks and promoting extensive cultural exchange. We would be organizing social events every evening, with a cocktail reception/welcome dinner, club night and farewell party currently in the pipelines. These activities would be a fantastic platform for different countries to showcase their cultures, and we warmly welcome those who are interested in putting up performances and exhibiting various aspects of their traditions to do so. In line with our target to provide a world-class conference, we would also be placing much effort in ensuring the highest standards of delegate services. From accommodation to logistics, the AIMUN 2008 secretariat would do its utmost to provide our delegates with the most conducive environment for academic discussion. We pledge maximum support in any aspect of the conference, and would be more than happy to answer any inquiries. Please feel free to contact me at liangweihao.mun@gmail.com or our Directors of Delegate Liaison Qi Te and Jenny Sun. Lastly, please allow me, on behalf of the AIMUN 2008 Secretariat, to wish you a Happy New Year. All the best in your team's preparation, and I look forward to seeing all of you next March. Good luck! Best Regards, Leong Weihao Secretary-General AIMUN 2008
