讲座一:World Languages and Cultures 主讲人:Prof. Mikle D. (Mike) Ledgerwood(美国桑福德大学世界语言文化中心主任) 时间:2012 年11月19日(周一)18:30——20:30 地点:北邮图书馆一层报告厅 摘要:In this presentation, I’ll speak about many different aspects of world languages and cultures in the United States that I think will be of interest to Chinese University students. I’ll give first a summary of the “ethnic makeup” of the current United States and indicate which languages are spoken throughout the country and by how many. Secondly, I’ll discuss how language attrition occurs in immigrants to the U.S., and present the concept of the “melting pot” and discuss its complexity for American culture as well as discussing how different generations of immigrants view their heritage language. I will then continue to explain how, why, and when Americans learn foreign language (languages other than English) and how Americans select which language(s) to study. I’ll use the example of my own University (Samford University) since we teach fourteen modern languages (fifteen, including English as a Second Language) and three ancient languages. Finally, I’ll give some examples of trends in which languages have become more and less popular recently as well as what the U.S. Government considers “strategic languages”. 讲座二:Issues and Trends in Language Learning Through Technology 主讲人:Prof. Mikle D. (Mike) Ledgerwood(美国桑福德大学世界语言文化中心主任) 时间:2012年11月21日(周三)16:00——17:30 地点:北邮图书馆一层报告厅 摘要:In this presentation I will begin with a historical and chronological survey of how technology and language learning have been intimately tied since the beginning of the 20th century in the United States. The focus will be on the period beginning after World War II in which I’ll detail how specific technological inventions became associated with specific language learning methodologies and pedagogies. I’ll also focus on the development of the World Wide Web and discuss how the Web 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and soon 4.0 have related or will relate to language learning. 此报告为前沿课题讲座,欢迎全校师生踊跃参加。 校学术委员会 人文学院 2012年11月14日 主讲人简介: Mike D.
