主讲人简介：
David Alan Grier teaches the cornerstone course in the International Science & Technology Policy Program at Elliott School of International Affairs of The George Washington University. He has a B.A. in Mathematics from Middlebury College and a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Washington in Seattle. He has published extensively on the development of computation and the institutions that support computation in publications ranging from the American Mathematical Monthly to The Washington Post. He has been the Joseph Henry Lecturer at the Washington Philosophical Society. He currently writes the column and blog "The Known World" for IEEE Computer and has served as the editor-in-chief of the IEEE Annals of the History of Computing.
报告摘要：
Professional organizations help individuals create and organize bodies of knowledge. They define, standardize and promote specific fields. The IEEE Computer Society is such a society. The Society originally focused on the field of hardware development but quickly move into software engineering, security engineering and certain aspects of Artificial Intelligence. This talk will describe the operations of the IEEE Computer Society and demonstrate how it can strengthen the work of individual researchers, departments, and universities.
