HPCC 2011 CFP The 13th IEEE International Conference on High Performance Computing and Communications, September 2-4, 2011, Banff, Canada IMPORTANT NEWS Distinguished papers presented at the conference, after further revision, will be published in special issues of International Journal of High Performance Computing Applications (SAGE, indexed by SCI and EI), and The Journal of Supercomputing (Springer, indexed by SCI and EI). Introduction With the rapid growth in computing and communications technology, the past decade has witnessed a proliferation of powerful parallel and distributed systems and an ever increasing demand for practice of high performance computing and communications (HPCC). HPCC has moved into the mainstream of computing and has become a key technology in determining future research and development activities in many academic and industrial branches, especially when the solution of large and complex problems must cope with very tight timing schedules. The HPCC-2011 conference is the 13th edition of the highly successful International Conference on High Performance and Communications (HPCC). It provides a forum for engineers and scientists in academia, industry, and government to address the resulting profound challenges and to present and discuss their new ideas, research results, applications and experience on all aspects of high performance computing and communications. This ubiquitous intelligence will change the computing landscape because it will enable new breeds of applications and systems to be developed and the realm of computing possibilities will be significantly extended. By enhancing everyday objects with intelligence, many tasks and processes could be simplified, the physical spaces where people interact like the workplaces and homes, could become more efficient, safer and more enjoyable. Ubiquitous computing, or pervasive computing, uses these many “smart things or u-things” to create smart environments, services and applications. A smart thing can be endowed with different levels of intelligence, and may be context-aware, active, interactive, reactive, proactive, assistive, adaptive, automated, sentient, perceptual, cognitive, autonomic and/or thinking. Research on ubiquitous intelligence is an emerging research field covering many disciplines. A series of grand challenges exist to move from the current level of computing services to the smart world of adaptive and intelligent services. Started in 2005, the series of UIC conferences has been held in Taipei, Nagasaki, Three Gorges (China), Hong Kong, Oslo, Brisbane, Xi’an. UIC 2011 will include a highly selective program of technical papers, accompanied by workshops, panel discussions and keynote speeches.
