Stand at the same place that Forrest Gump did

Forrest Gump, one of my favorite movies, accounted for most of my visual impression of the United States, especially its national capital city, before I got to Washington D.C. on a business trip last week. Though I was occupied all day long, exhausted when the work was off at sunset, I was determined to pay a visit to the very place where Gump gave his speech on an anti-Vietnam-War assembly. But I had been too busy to have a search on Google map, so I didn't know where the spot was exactly. I just remembered that Gump was facing a large pool reelecting a tall, slim building structure, which, according to my colleague, might be the Washington Monument. At a sunset, we paid a visit to the Monument. I hoped to find the place. Well, the monument was in a large area of lawn. At its foot I didn't seen any sign for a large pool. Since we had come, why not have a look at the World War II Memorial just nearby? The Memorial, which was of shape of basin, had a circular small spring pool at its center. Surrounding at the edge of the basin shape were pillars with state names (I was not sure whether there were 50), honoring the great victories of the federation in World War II. If the tall building I saw in the movie was the Washington Monument, there should be a great pool nearby. I went upstairs to got out of the Memorial. Just next to it lay a great pool! The rectangular pool had a seemingly length of 200 meters. Compared to the small city of Washington, this was really a large pool. Passing the pool along its longer side, I turned back and had a look. Emm, this was no doubt the spot where Gump delivered his speech. How exciting to stand in the same spot featured in your favorite movie! Screenshot from the movie My photo When I turned around and walked forth, I found the temple nearby to be Lincoln Memorial, the most famous place of interest I had known of the United States. A surprising bonus. As to the whole city of Washington, it was a small city of political institutions and museums. There were the White House, Capitol, Supreme Court, Pentagon, Department of State, Department of the Treasure, Federal Bureau of Investigation, etc. There were the Museum of American History, the Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Art, the Postal Museum, and so on. It seemed that no headquarters of large corporation, like IBM, Microsoft, GE, Boeing, was located in D.C. The most attractive feature of the city is that it never suffers a traffic jam.
