* tally, “统计数字或记帐的行为”，如，the tally of the dead continued to rise,“死亡人数继续上升”。
* laid-off,“被解雇的”，在我们国内一般称为“下岗的”，其中的laid 是lay过去分词形式。看个例子，Google has been quietly laying off staff and up to 10,000 jobs could be on the chopping block. “Google公司已悄悄地开始裁员，多达一万个岗位可能在裁减之列”。同时，请大家注意，新闻中还有一个“裁员”的表达，cutting workers，这个表达更口语化一些。
