The Chinese Ministry of Railways on Tuesday revealed a transport plan for train travel during the Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, of 2010.
According to China Central Television (CCTV), the Spring Festival travel rush, or Chunyun, starts from Jan.30 this year and will last 40 days till Mar.10, including 15 days before the Spring Festival, and 25 days after.
The Ministry predicted that there will be some 210 million passengers taking trains over the 40-day period, up 9.5 percent compared with the same period last year. To relieve pressure during the festival, the Ministry will arrange for 323 pairs of temporary trains. It has also made preparations for increased transport security and ticket sales during the transport peak.
