2008年由IEEE主办,中国电子学会、中国通信学会、清华大学、北京邮电大学共同协办的世界通信大会(International Conference on Communications, ICC 2008)5月19日至23日将在中国北京举行,今年会议的主题是“通信:更快、更高、更强”。借此机会,北邮校学术委员会、电信工程学院、计算机科学与技术学院、信息工程学院等共同策划、组织ICC 2008北邮系列学术讲座,将陆续邀请到多位与会资深专家来我校作精彩的学术报告。本次活动是由电信院WT&T实验室发起,同时得到电信工程学院、计算机科学与技术学院、信息工程学院等多个实验室的积极响应。 欢迎全校师生踊跃参加。 ICC 2008系列学术讲座第三场 主持人:纪红教授(电信工程学院) 时 间:2008-05-20 周二下午14:00-16:00 地 点:教三楼136 报告厅 题目一:Ubiquitous Wireless Networking for People and Machines(泛在无线网络和无线个域网技术) 主讲人:Professor Victor C.M. Leung IEEE Fellow, Telus Mobility Research Chair in Advanced Telecom Engineering (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada) 内容摘要: Over the past few years, the research programs in wireless networking at the University of British Columbia under the direction of Prof. Victor Leung have been proceeding in two major directions. One thrust is concerned with providing ubiquitous access to the global network to people regardless of where they are located and how they access the global network. The research in this area involves the development of novel techniques to provide efficient and secure access to and across heterogeneous for multimodal terminals for multimedia applications. The second thrust is concerned with networking machines using short range wireless communications. We have developed various methods for personal area networking and wireless sensor networking, and are proceeding with new work on RFID and wireless body area networks. A summary of the wide range of completed, ongoing and emerging research projects under these research programs will be presented. 题目二:Cross-Layer Design for Quality of Service Provisioning in Wireless Networks(无线网络中保证QoS的跨层设计机制) 主讲人:Professor Fei Richard Yu (School of Information Technology, Department of Systems and Computer Engineering, Carleton University, Ottawa, ON, Canada) 内容摘要: The layered structure is one of the key reasons behind the success of the Internet. However, cross-layer design is appropriate and may even be necessary in wireless networks due to their intrinsic characteristics, such as limited bandwidth, user mobility and power constraints. Recently, cross-layer design for wireless multimedia networks has become a hot-topic in both academia and industry. Cross-layer optimization is a new frontier in the field of wireless communications, which will result in new algorithms and significantly improved performance for wireless networks, such as sensor networks, cellular networks, cognitive radio and WiMAX. In this talk, we consider cross-layer design for quality of service (QoS) provisioning in wireless networks. Specifically, we propose novel cross-layer schemes taking into account both physical layer fading channels and application layer packet multimedia traffic.
