* expectancy，名词，它的形容词形式是 expectant，表“预期的，怀孕初期的”，如，an expectant mother，“准妈妈”，当然“准妈妈”还可以说 would-be mother或 mother-to-be；这里要注意，expectant所以表现的这种“期望”是“急切的，心怀愉悦的”，如，You can see the expectant faces of the children waiting for Santa to appear. “你可以看到孩子们一脸期待地等着圣诞老人的出现”。
