April 19, 2005 Abusir, Egypt 1998 Kenneth Garrett Located several miles south of the Pyramids at Giza, Abusir's smaller pyramids mark the burials of forgotten kings and queens of the 5th dynasty. Here also is a cemetery of shaft tombs from the sixth century B.C., when the Persians invaded Egypt. At the bottom of one of these shafts is a rare archaeological find: the unlooted tomb of Iuffaa, an Egyptian priest. (Text adapted from "Abusir Tomb," November 1998, National Geographic magazine)
