☆─────────────────────────────────────☆ jerrytian (北邮人) 于 (Sat Mar 5 12:26:05 2005) 提到: first of all, i claim here the point below are only for true fans of linux, not those guys who just want to pass the linux exam (though it really helps too, but i think it is too hard for them to put their energy in it, also not worthy it). my point is going back to the ground, to the console world, if you are beginners ! the essence of the linux/unix system is their full-featured,powered also little console utilities. though their function maybe limited to just one field, but also they expert it that. you can always trust them if you are familiar with them. if you want a big goal, and not a single tool can archieve that, fine, gathering them, and using whatever glue language (bash, perl, python.....) to glue them together. that's your creativity in the world, you can design the rule, not just following the instruction of "click the green button first, then the red button, then the yellow button ....". if i have to do this all day long, this gonna kill me :-( day after day i am watching these curious guys wandering in the linux world, they keep asking why their X doesn't start up, why there are not so many graphic interfaced programs, and they complain how ugly linux/unix is, wow, i think they get the wrong way. if you want to enjoy a more familiar and more traditional beautiful (also more expensive) graphic interface, just go back to windows, i am sure windows will not fail on that. my suggestion is that if it is your first attempt to linux, install X is ok, but do not rely on it, yelling "i can not live with out it". if it works, fine, you're pretty lucky here, it just offers a great place to put a lot virtual terminal windows there, and you will try every possible console utilities there, trying graphic clients or not is also your own choice, but at the risk of losing yourself there; if X failed, still fine, you still have console by your side, that is enough, you can still play with your box, and when you have your feet stand on the ground, later you will find easier to solve the X problems by yourself and many of other questions posted nowadays again and again. i am here not denying graphic interface and X window system, they are great for sure, i like it too, i am using it a lot too, but i know there is always other choice for me. i just want to point out which is more basic in linux/unix world. in one word, you can live without the graphic interface in linux enjoyable, and you can still master all the world. by the way, so far as i know,linus torvald himself does just use X windows system to open a lot of virtual terminals, and then does all his daily works on this terminals. ok, maybe i should shut up now, too much words here. :-)※ 修改:·jerrytian 於 Mar 5 12:37:31 2005 修改本文·[FROM: 221.217.65.*] ☆─────────────────────────────────────☆ wisewill (北邮人) 于 (Sat Mar 5 13:30:49 2005) 提到: 一大堆e文，看得有点头晕哦不过还是m了先【在 jerrytian (北邮人) 的大作中提到: 】 : first of all, i claim here the point below are only for true : fans of linux, not those guys who just want to pass the linux : exam (though it really helps too, but i think it is too hard for : ................... ☆─────────────────────────────────────☆ Dianek (WopWhite) 于 (Sat Mar 5 14:37:45 2005) 提到: life is short, learn more... but i think the point is "productivity", come up with batch work, commands are better... otherwise, GUI is more effcient for interaction... ☆─────────────────────────────────────☆ yifengcn (yifengcn) 于 (Sat Mar 5 17:26:19 2005) 提到: Maybe what I think is different .
